About Section W4C!

Sinagua Section W4C

Section W4C currently serves four lodges in the Southwest United States of America. Section W4C (or Western Region, Area 4, Section C) has been serving Arizona, Nevada and parts of California, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah for over 30 years, and many years before that as Area 12F or Area 7. Also called Sinagua Section, our totem is a horned lizard, which has been dubbed a "Sinagua Sam".

A Brief History

Our Section has had a busy history. Its designation had been changed many times over the years, and the section has seen many lodges merge or leave the section. Before 1973, the Sections as we now call them were known as Areas. In the original 12-Region National structure, what is today W4C was Area 7 of or Region 12. Our designation changed from area 7 to Area 12-F in 1962. 12 years later, National reorganized the twelve regions into the four Regions still recognized today and Areas became Sections. Area 12-F was subsequently called Section W4C (or Western Region, Area 4, Section C). From 1979 to 1987 W4C was moved from Area 4 to Area 5, thus becoming W5A. In 1988 we returned to Area 4, reclaiming our former designation as W4C.

When the Section first became active in the mid-1950's, there were six lodges. They were 177 Victorio (Cochise Council, Douglas, AZ), 432 Wipala Wiki (Theodore Roosevelt Council, Phoenix, AZ), 494 Papago (Catalina Council, Tucson, AZ), 503 Chee Dodge (Grand Canyon Council, Flagstaff, AZ) 532 Pang (El Centro, CA) and 551 Salado (Copper Council, Safford, AZ). In 1964, Victorio merged with Papago. Sometime during the late 60's early 70's, Pang was moved to another section. In 1977, the small council serving southeastern Arizona, Copper Council, merged with Theodore Roosevelt Council and as a result Salado's members joined Wipala Wiki. Things kept quiet until 1992-93, when huge changes took place. Pang merged with Ashie 436 to form Tiwahe 45, but the Arizona portion of Pang joined Wipala Wiki. It was also during this time that two of the three major councils in Arizona were talking about a merger. In 1993 it was made official that a new Grand Canyon Council was to be formed out of the old Grand Canyon and Theodore Roosevelt Councils. Chee Dodge and Wipala Wiki followed suit and became a new and expanded Wipala Wiki. Since then, the three of the six remaining Lodges have been the membership of Section W4C.
